LOL - At least they got the Political View right. :) [17 Mar 2007|07:08pm]

The Everything Test

There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

Personality
You are more logical than emotional, more concerned about self than concerned about others, more atheist than religious, more dependent than loner, more lazy than workaholic, more traditional than rebel, more engineering mind than artistic mind, more cynical than idealist, more leader than follower, and more extroverted than introverted.

As for specific personality traits, you are adventurious (100%), intellectual (73%), romantic (71%), adventurous (70%).

Stereotypes
Old Geezer100%
Punk Rock80%
College Student75%

Life Experience
Sex27%
Substances46%
Travel19%

Politics
Your political views would best be described as Libertarian, whom you agree with around 84% of the time.
  Socioeconomic
Your attitude toward life best associates you with Middle Class. You make more than 0% of those who have taken this test, and 54% less than the U.S. average.

If your life was a movie, it would be rated PG-13.
By the way, your hottness rank is 62%, hotter than 88% of other test takers.

[09 Nov 2006|03:14pm]
This previous Tuesday was a great day in American Politics. A midterm election in the second term of a president is usually one of the best indicators of what the American Public stands for, what the American Public wants to see in coming years. So what did this years election give a mandate to/for?

In short, moderate conservatism.

What happened! )
The Big Winners!

Moderates -
Balance in Washington, Conservative issues, and Liberal leaders show that the Country is truly wanting a Centrist look, and that is exactly what it is getting.

Joe Lieberman -
No matter what the numbers looked like, as long as Lieberman won, it was going to be a big win for him. With the extremely close Senate, it means one other thing. Lieberman has the most important vote when it comes to Security Issues, if a security issue is split (49-49) we know that Bernie Sanders will be voting to the left. Its quite likely though that in these issues, Lieberman will vote to the right, casting the Deciding vote over to Dick Cheney.

Nancy Pelosi -
Historical win for her, it means that there is likely a woman speaker of the house for the first time in history.

Dick Cheney -
With a close Senate he may actually get to have a voice in the Senate.

Democrats in General -
Control of Congress gives Democrats a good chance of proving themselves as capable legislators and they will be able to operate under their terms.

Biggest Losers -

Religious Right -
Losing such Moral impositionists as Santorum, Foley (hah), Chocola, Hostettler etc. and losing to Democrats in general has cost them the ability to get anything pushed through the legislature.

Liberals -
The voters came out and voted for Democrats, but they did not vote for Liberals. There are now more moderates in Congress than there were before, there are more states banning Same Sex Marriages, Michigan pulling on Affirmative Action law, Marijuana Legalization unable to pass anywhere this year, shows that it was Conservatives that spoke the loudest.

The Toast [25 Sep 2006|11:25am]
I promised Id post this in my myspace account. here's the LJ repost to the Best Mans Rehearsal Toast.

Good Evening. I'd like to start by thank everyone that could make it here today. We are gathered in a group of Nick and Mitzi's closest friends and family. As I am the best man in the wedding, I have gotten to meet most of you; But for those that dont know, my name is Derek and I am greatly honoured to be here standing with Nick tomorrow to withness his marriage to his sweet and beautiful bride, Mitzi.

A great wordsmith once crafted a quote that I hope the two of you can find yourselves consistently living your life by:
"To laugh often and love much... to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to give one's self... that is to have succeeded."
- Ralph Waldo Emmerson

Speaking of success, Im reminded of a story I heard years ago: A man is taking a country stroll one day, trying to sort out his life, when he comes across a ladder that goes straight into the sky. Not being able to see what supports the ladder, or where it stop, his curiousity gets the best of him, and he begins to climb the ladder. After climbing for a while he comes up to a cloud, where he finds a rather homely looking old woman. This old woman looks to him and says, "Lie with me now, or climb the ladder to success." The man figures it would be best to keep climbing. When he gets to the next cloud he finds a mildly attractive middle aged woman who says to him, "Lie with me now, or climb the ladder to success." Seeing the trend that has started, he decides to keep climbing. When he arrives at a third cloud, he finds one of the most beautiful young women he has ever laid his eyes on. This young woman looks to him and says, "Lie with me now, or climb the ladder to success." After taking a moment to make his decision, he sees that things just keep getting better the higher he climbs, so he continues up the ladder. when he arrives at the final cloud, he sees a dirty, fat, old man sitting there in nothing but a loin cloth. Confused, and a little outraged, the man looks over and angrily asks, "Who are you, what the hell are you doing here?" The man reaches his hand out and calmly replies, "Hello, my name is Cess."

But seriously, tomorrow, we will gather together as witnesses of a grand union of the two people whom we hold in great esteem; however, this is not our only purpose. We are also here to support Nick and Mitzi and to aid them in a succesful marriage. As their friends and family, we are an extended support network. A successful marriage not only brings into union the bride and groom, but also their friends and family. This is what makes me certain of a successful union. Whereas often the brides friends and the grooms friends find themselves to have little in common with each other, these two groups of people have a great repoire with each other, creating one of the best support groups a couple could have.

And now we come to the true purpose of me standing here speaking to all of you: A toast to the Bride and Groom.

May you live each day like your last, and each night like your first. Cheers!

South Central Farm [28 Jun 2006|12:37am]
"Actually, there should be no dispute over the plot. The land has been owned by Ralph Horowitz since 2003. This is the second time he's held it, though. The first ended in 1986 when the city seized the property. Zoned for warehouses and factories, it has sat undeveloped, becoming in the early 1990s a haven for squatters — known by the loving title of "farmers" — who used it as their own to grow crops.

Horowitz, who said he was never "offered a nickel for rent" by the squatters, finally decided to develop the land. It costs him $25,000 a month in mortgage and maintenance expenses, plus legal fees he incurred in trying to wrest the use of his property from the squatters. The free riders finally had to go."

" * As of June 14, 2006, the farm is being protected by a private security company hired by Horowitz to prevent members of the South Central Farm returning to squat on the land. Horowitz has told the Los Angeles Times and KFI that he would not sell the land to them even if they offered him $50 million, due to the picketing of his house and anti-Semitic remarks directed towards him on the antisemitic website without any affiliation with the farmers, Voz de Aztlán. [8] [9]

* The City of Los Angeles has provided 7.8 acres of land at an alternate site, which some of the farmers have relocated to and begun cultivating. [10]

* The next court date involved with the case has been set for July 12, 2006. Lawyers for the farmers will attempt to make the case that the sale of the land to Horowitz was conducted through an illegal backroom deal. [11]

* The SCF continues to hold nightly vigils which typically start at 7pm."

--- Wikipedia Entry

"On January 8, 2004, Horowitz issued a notice to the gardeners setting February 29, 2004, as the termination date for the community garden. In response members of the South Central Farmers Feeding Families obtained legal counsel (Hadsell & Stormer, Inc., and Kaye, Mclane & Bednarski LLP) and filed a lawsuit seeking to invalidate the sale of the property. The Los Angeles County Superior Court issued a temporary restraining order and later a preliminary injunction halting development of the property until the lawsuit could be settled. The farmers lost the lawsuit.

Horowitz sought $16.3 million for the property, the current value being more then three times the 1986 eminent domain valuation. This figure is $8.3 million more than Horowitz paid when he purchased it from the L.A. Harbor Department in 2003. In a deal brokered in cooperation by The Trust for Public Land, the SCF have successfully raised a little over six million dollars. Fundraising efforts continued as farmers and celebrities have begun both a tree sitting campaign and occupation of the land, while under the threat of forced eviction by the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department. [5]

On June 7, 2006, the Annenberg Foundation announced that they would donate the money to buy the farm. Horowitz, however, did not respond to the offer, since it came after his May 22 deadline.[6]"

Interesting stuff.

I dont understand why there is a stink about part of this becoming a Wal-Mart.

story of my life: [02 May 2006|02:47am]
I meet Girl.
I try to get to know girl.
Friend meets Girl.
Friend hits on girl and make her forget me.

I dont know how many times this has happened. probably at least a dozen or so.

So you know what. Fuck it. Basically, I have 2 choices:
1) I stop having friends (or at least stop giving a shit about them)
or
2) I decide to just be single forever.

I think 2 is going to be easier right now anyhow seeing as I have no fucking job either.

or I could move to Iowa and be completely miserable, forget school and live in a state with a failing economy. not going to happen.

and the only other choice is something that Im too much of a pussy (or too afraid of destroying something so capable of great things? --- and theres my pride again.) to try so why even consider.

so yea two choices. neither one sounds very appealing.

yea. I guess it all ends with

LIFE FUCKING SUCKS

I've known that, but sometimes I just have to scream it.

How do I stop being likeable?
anyone?

Badly written quiz. [21 Apr 2006|11:34pm]

Your Political Profile

Overall: 65% Conservative, 35% Liberal

Social Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Ethics: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

This was a horrible test that put every issue into simple black and white statements. While I agree that I am conservative, I am NOT as conservative as this test makes me out to be.

Political Ramblings [08 Apr 2006|01:20am]
As I am one who generally agrees with a broad interpretation of Presidential Authority, I find myself having a harder and harder time arguing for it. The current administration's ineptitude is showing itself more every week (note the word ineptitude as opposed to corruption.) This shows the problems that can occur with the broad interpretation of Article II.

------

Abortion. I hate it. I think it is a horrible and disgusting act. Yet, I am pro-choice. Black and White issue, but not now. Abortion is wrong. Unfortunately, it is a necessity in todays world. How do we come to terms with these facts? When are we going to get Abortions Brown v. Board of Education? its already had its Pless V. Ferguson (Roe v. Wade) how can help along the continuing stages and what are they?

-----

Eh, I wanted to write more, but I lost most of my thoughts. oh well, if anyone wants to discuss issues individually right now, feel free to ask me about some, I'm so much better at discussing reactively.

this is harsh. [28 Mar 2006|02:33am]
Dont know what I really think of this just a thought.

What programs are worth giving up for the cost of National Health Care, and how many must be given up?
Social Security
Welfare
Educational Grants
Military Spending
Unemployment

things to keep in mind:
Health and Human Services and Social Security accounts for 1.1 Trillion dollars of the fiscal year 06 budget.

Deficit Spending [28 Mar 2006|02:04am]
In the 1980's Ronald Reagan took the country into a new direction of foreign policy, specifically when dealing with the "Soviet Threat." His new direction included a mass pileup of "Nuclear Weapons." The end result? bankrupting the Soviet Union's government and effectively forcing an economic change, and thus political change in Russia.

Is this possibly what Bush is trying to do? Bankrupt those that are funding terrorism?

Freedom is Fantastic [15 Mar 2006|12:32am]
SO I spent 66 hours in Jail this past weekend, 5PM Friday - 11AM Monday morning. Not the first time I've ever been in jail, but it was the first time that I was put into a Cell Block. Let me tell you, that is about that scariest thing that has ever fucking happened to me, One of the most nerve-wrecking things ever is walking into a cell block for the first time and the entire cell block starts yelling out shit like:
"Fresh Meat"
"This one's Mine"
"You're sleeping in XX with me!"
etc, etc, etc.

With that said, it wasn't really too bad, they were really just fucking with me (does that count as a pun?) the biggest thing was the severe boredom, which got cut a little bit with the hearing of some good stories, a REALLY funny little hispanic kid, and the ability to play cards and domino's with my block mates, and some reading.

The most amazing thing, I know now that I Really do have some of the greatest friends in the whole wide world. I was arrested on the fact that I hadn't paid off all of my fines from the DUI I had almost 3 years ago. The amount was $450, in the time that I was incarcerated though, my friends managed to raise over $1000 to pay off my fines and get me out!!!! talk about absolutely fantastic, well over the amount needed to get me out. So now instead of owing the city a lot of money I owe several of my friends a handful of cash each. THANK YOU ALL SOO MUCH!!!

I do have to go take my OGC class in the next 60 days (well 58 now) or I will be put back into jail. but thats not so bad. The other good news is this means that I have almost all of the problems of my past taken care of. I can start working towards getting my Driver's License back, and getting a car. The bad news: I have decided that because of all of this (as well as current monetary issues) I am putting off school for one semester, I will not even be trying to get money together for school in the fall, and will instead wait until the spring 07 semester to start. Seeing as how I had already foreseen this as a possibility though, Im too upset by it. I mean, both hell and highwater has come my way in the issue of money, so Im perfectly ok with it, plus it means I get to really work towards stability before getting in.

I do have some neat stories from my cell block, if any one wants to hear them just ask, I kinda like telling them.

Love you all!

PS Sissy, if you let mom see this or tell her about it before I do, I am going to be very, very mad. but do tell her to try and call me sometime next week. I dont have any time to myself until then really as Im working a lot of extra shifts, and have a lot of things to take care of.

Political Capital and its positive use [09 Mar 2006|02:03am]
[ mood | contemplative ]

So today the Senate voted on the Port Deal and killed it. Meaning that we probably no longer have to worry about the UAE managing any of our ports (not that I saw it as that much of a risk.) The president will veto the override, and congress will probably overturn the veto, it definitely seems like the Senate has enough votes to do so.

on a diplomatic level, the President is pretty much required to be publicly okay with a friendly cooperative nation that is an ally in our current war, coming from a part of the world that believes it is being snubbed because of its faith. If we do snub the friends that we do have in the Middle East, do we help aid the civil rights movements in the middle east, or do we harm them. If the Leader of our Nations tells the UAE no, what is their response? If instead, the president says I will do everything in my power to help my friends the UAE, in a bid that he probably knew (or at least Karl Rove did) would be killed by the Legislators anyhow, is this not a very good use of political capital?

Basically I don't see how the President has any choice but to back the trade, simply as a diplomatic issue.

---edit after further knowledge
It turns out the vote was attached to a must pass recovery bill, so its guaranteed to pass whether the president vetos or not. and he has no political worries other than poll numbers.
